Dr. Spiller's Public History

This class was in last night, a great group, some excellent questions. Hopefully they learned something about what an archives is, how it is organized and what some of the challenges and opportunities are.

Professional roles report

Was asked for a report that was done by a faculty senate committee on professional roles and rewards in '98 (they also did one on faculty.) We have a pretty complete run of senate materials now from its beginnings c1967 to recent years, found it in there, scanned and sent to them.

1840s Brockport genealogy..

Someone messaged me on the Rose Archives page on Facebook and I asked them to email, I find FB messenger inconvenient and awkward. They are researching a couple who lived in Brockport c1841. I had to tell them that that period is a tough one, the village newspapers of the day have not survived, the Brockport Republic starts in late 1850s. Not much in the way of directories etc either. I did see if any mentions in latter years, but weren't, and I asked if she had contacted the Brockport United Methodist (she has a wedding certificate for 1841 from there) although unlikely they would have such records. Also connected her with the village museum.

Adam Lazarre marker missing

This is a shame, a commemorative tree marker honoring Adam Lazarre of Theatre from 1991 has apparently gone missing. I didn't actually have a photo of it, but luckily Bud Meade did, and that supplies the needed information to replace it.

1978 Saga

The secretary for the school of education and health emailed, they had got a request from a '78 grad for a copy of the yearbook. The grad was from Kenya, and went back there after school here, such a long distance connection! I had an extra copy and brought it over to her.
