Naming of the archives

Spent Friday morning (4/25) setting up the archives for the official naming of them that afternoon. Very good turnout, easily 35-40 people, nice recognition for the archives.

Fall 2014 interns

Have started talking to two students who wish to do 3 credit internships this fall.

Married Vets Housing from POW Camp?!

Interesting, phone call just now with someone working with the history of the CCC camp in Hamlin group. Apparently several old timers recalled that some of the CCC barracks, which were used in WWII for POWs, were later moved down here to be the married vets housing. I have sent her some images I had of the buildings, and will pursue further.

CSEA history

Interesting question from Ed Hoover, who is president of the CSEA chapter here. He wants some history of CSEA here, and photos of people etc. Good question, will have to dig in on that a little.

Visiting early alum, field hockey

John McMahon came to discuss visits with some older alumni, eg Fern Poelma '36. Also discussed upcoming naming of field hockey field; it is to be named after Linda Arena '69. Am putting together some photos etc. for him, and will be planning some visits together to see some of these older alum, and record their memories.

Mornings with Professors & Scholars Day

Presented at Mornings with Professors 4/8, on Camp Totem & Fancher, and today gave a presentation at Scholars Day that was a sort of ramble through the college history and the holdings of the archives. Both seemed to go over well, and resulted in good archives contacts and information. Presentations like these require many hours of searching for the right photographs, scanning them, checking on dates, names, and other historical background, and then assembling the slide shows etc.

ENG112 queries

Kerfoot's ENG112 was here for a class session recently, and now have several students from the class who want to visit the archives for their project. One is interested in the old sororities and fraternities of the Normal era for example.

Have had several from class in, including two this afternoon (4/14.) One for ghosts of Hartwell, the other on cheerleaders.

Erie Canal businesses

Query from a student working in the anthro group at village museum about scanning a big map of Brockport. She brought it in, turned out was the 1902 plat map which I already have scanned. Shared the scans with her, and gave her lots of suggestions and tips on research, sources, including letting her check out the Smith dissertation.

A Class of '64 query

Charles
You asked if there was anything you could look up for me. Don't know if this is possible but would like to get the team won-lost records for the 60,61,62, 63 and 64 B'port soccer teams and the teams they played. With the scores.
My old yearbooks have some info. but not all of it.

Thanks Charles----hope all is well at BTSC.
